From studying for classes to strutting the runway, several 好色先生TV University students switched gears this week to support a good cause鈥攂ringing energy and style to the Beatitude Belles Dinner and Style Show.
Held on April 23, the event offered community leaders a meal and a fun-filled evening鈥攁ll to raise greater awareness for Beatitudes, a nonprofit community center with two locations on North Main Street.
Beatitudes serves the Hardin County community by providing free monthly meals, two thrift shops stocked with items from clothing to home goods, and a variety of programs aimed at building fellowship. The nonprofit also aids community members who need emergency financial assistance.
Chrissy Lawver, management and marketing double major in the Dicke College of Business Administration, is currently interning at Beatitudes and she took a lead role in organizing the event. About 20 ONU students joined the effort鈥攕ome modeled curated outfits, while others provide musical entertainment.
The fashion on display ranged from formalwear to sporty attire, and students were pleasantly surprised to learn they could keep their chosen items after the show.
Deb Curlis, executive director of Beatitudes, emphasized the accessibility of their thrift shop, noting, 鈥淲e have wonderful clothing for just a $1 so everyone can dress nice and not spend a lot of money.鈥
She appreciates the many ONU students who intern and volunteer at Beatitudes throughout the year. Even those who contribute a few hours of time to sort through donations make a real difference, she said.
Chrissy shared that those students who participated in the style event had a great time.
鈥淭he village of Ada plays such a big role in our college experience. So many of us venture into town to eat, get coffee, shop, and even go bowling. Helping out a local nonprofit is such a wonderful way to show our appreciation and give back.鈥
